VITA Selects First Tennis Coordinator

Feb. 7, 2007 – The Virgin Islands Tennis Association, under the auspices of the Caribbean Tennis Association, has announced the selection of Bruce Wray as VITA's first tennis coordinator. This is part of a national initiative of the U.S. Tennis Association to increase participation in tennis, especially amongst diverse populations.
Wray, an assistant professor of physical education at the University of the Virgin Islands – St. Croix Campus, is no stranger to the V.I. tennis scene. A past teaching pro on St. Thomas, he has directed many adult and junior tennis programs from interscholastic and intercollegiate tennis to coaching V.I. national teams. As the tennis coordinator, Wray's major goals for 2007 include: producing a master tennis schedule of adult and junior tournaments throughout the V.I.; revising interscholastic tennis on St. Thomas/St. John, aligning with the program on St. Croix; place more emphasis on tennis in our schools physical education programs; and increasing adult team tennis at the club level and ultimately as a sanctioned USTA league throughout the territory.
