First Road Race of the Season to Take Place Sunday

Jan. 31, 2007 – "El Ocho" will make its return as the first road race of the 2007 cycling season. The race is in a figure eight pattern and starts at the old South Shore Café. It will begin with a small loop over Lowry Hill and finish with a larger loop on the South Shore Road through Work and Rest and Catherines Rest. Each circuit is 21 miles. The Elites will complete two circuits; the Expert Category will race one; the Sport and Women's classes will complete only the large loop for a total of 15 miles.
The first two races of the season were individual events that lacked the teamwork and strategy of road races. The two teams looking to control the race are STX 340 and Twin Cities. Constant attacks should be the order of the day, on a course that is flatter than most St. Croix circuits.
Registration will be open at the starting area from 6:30-6:50 a.m., and the race will start at 7 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 4.
