What's Up Next on the Doug Lewis Show

Jan. 30, 2007 – Tune into the Doug Lewis Show on WVGN 107.3 FM from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 4. This Sunday we will feature music by Ray Charles and the Count Basie Orchestra, the Grandsons, Ann Savoy, Lisa Lauren, D.C. Bellamy and more.
The Modern Music Feature CD is "Ray Sings Basie Swings" by Ray Charles with the Count Basie Orchestra. Charles and the Basie Orchestra never did record together. Concord Records discovered tapes of some shows Ray Charles did in Germany in the seventies. While the vocal tracks were of excellent quality and contained some great Ray Charles performances, the instrumental tracks from his orchestra were muddy sounding and unusable. Through the use of modern recording technology, the current Count Basie Orchestra was brought in, and they created an instrumental track that joined with Ray's vocal tracks resulting in a recording where you would swear that Ray and the Count Basie Orchestra jointly recorded these songs in concert.
The Indie Spotlight CD is "Live at the Barns Vol. 2" by the Grandsons. The Grandsons are incredibly eclectic, with tunes that include blues, folk, country, roots rock and more. They have sold out the prestigious Wolf Trap on a number of occasions and will be appearing at various venues in the Virgin Islands in February.
We play new music from Ramblin Jack Elliott, blues artist D.C. Bellamy, Lisa Lauren, Bill Kirchen and more.
We include music from Linda Ronstadt and Ann Savoy, Marty Stuart, Willie Nelson, Little Richard, Johnny Winter and more.
We celebrate the birthdays of James Dunn of the Stylistics and John Steel of the Animals, and we remember Karen Carpenter on the anniversary of her death.
Congratulations to Randy Shaw, who won two tickets to see Otis Taylor at Tillett Gardens last Wednesday.
Tune in for a chance to win two tickets t see the Amadeus Trio at Tillett Gardens on St. Thomas on Feb. 14.
We also include music from Watermelon Slim, who was one of the artists appearing at the Beach Bar on Jan. 17 when the Blues Cruise visited St. John. And we play music from Orleans, who will be performing at Sapphire Beach on St. Thomas on Feb. 17.

We give you a chance to win the new CD release from J.J. Cale and Eric Clapton as well as a CD from exciting blues vocalist Hazel Miller.
Doug Lewis Show is underwritten by Hook, Line and Sinker; Molly Molones; and St. Thomas Radiology Associates.
