Constitution 2008 Will Hold St. John Forum

Jan. 26, 2007 – The University of the Virgin Islands will host the St. John community's first public forum on the Constitution 2008 public education campaign being conducted in support of the territory’s fifth V.I. constitutional convention.
The program, “Constitution 2008: Come Hear; Come Share,” will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Westin Resort. All are invited to attend and participate in an exciting exchange on pertinent issues that will be part of the convention when it opens in July 2007. Convention delegates will have until July 2008 to adopt a proposed constitution for the U.S.V.I., which will subsequently be submitted to registered voters for their consideration.
Appearing on the program will be UVI President LaVerne E. Ragster, Ph.D.; Yvonne Tharpes, Esq., who served St. John as a delegate to the fourth constitutional convention; Carlyle Corbin, Ph.D., a Virgin Islands scholar, who is versed in both territorial, national and international affairs; and Joanne E. Bozzuto, Esq., CPA, who has done extensive analysis of the Revised Organic Act of 1954, particularly with regard to fiscal issues. A reception will follow.
For more information on the constitution project, visit the university's Web site: www.itsourfuture.vi. A program on Constitution 2008 will air at 7 p.m., every Tuesday, on WTJX Public Television Channel 12.
