Jan. 11, 2006 — An alleged Detroit fugitive con artist, accused of swindling the elderly out of their life savings, was caught Thursday aboard a boat named Running Free, B.V.I. customs officials said.
Terry Netzloff, of Lake Orion, Mich., allegedly swindled some $400,000 from elderly people he met at churches, according to a Detroit crime watch web site.
Netzloff, a former attorney, is wanted on embezzlement charges and allegedly posed as an investment adviser during the scams, said B.V.I. Customs Comptroller Wade Smith.
B.V.I. police handed custody of Netzloff over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents shortly after the arrest, Smith said.
Netzloff had been living on the boat in B.V.I. waters since at least November, Smith said, and had overstayed his tourist visa.
