The Art Show Will Present 'New Art from Haiti'

Jan. 1, 2007 – The Art Show at Alexander's Bella Blu presents "New Art from Haiti," an exhibit of original paintings from Haiti. The show opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 5, at Alexander's Bella Blu in Frenchtown, St. Thomas, and is open to the public.
The exhibit will feature work from some of Haiti's most prominent artists. Curator Caroll Sirhakis selected the paintings, which are represented by Gallery St. Thomas. Among the popular artists featured in the exhibit will be Ernst Joseph, Magda Magloire, Daniel Francisque, Joel Gautier, Claude D'Ambreville and Raymond LaFaille. "There will be an opportunity to see the work of other new artists, as well," says Claire Ochoa, owner of Gallery St. Thomas.
Artwork from Haiti has drawn international attention and a growing circle of collectors worldwide. "Haiti is the country with the fewest economic resources in the Western Hemisphere," says Sirhakis, "yet its art brims over with creativity, color and wonderful fantasy. Haitian art is truly a life-affirming tribute to the strength of the human spirit in the face of great adversity."
The exhibit is sponsored by Wente wines, and all work is for sale. It will run through March 2. For more information, contact The Art Show coordinator, Gallery St. Thomas at 777-6363 or online at www.GalleryStThomas.com.
