Alert: Sewage Overflow in Gallows Bay Area

Dec. 27, 2006 — The Division of Environmental Protection (DEP) investigated a sewage bypass in the Gallows Bay Area on St. Croix, according to a DPNR release Wednesday. The bypass is emanating from a partially open manhole adjacent to the Schooner Bay Condominiums. It appears that a restriction in the sewage line is causing the overflow of sewage onto the street, which then migrates and pools on the grounds of St. Croix Marines boat yard.
DPNR is advising the public to avoid the area around the affected manhole, especially children and adults with compromised immune systems. Standing or running water in these areas may contain contaminants or pollutants harmful to human health. DPNR will continue to monitor the impacted area. For additional information regarding water quality, please call the Division of Environmental Protection at 773-1082.
