Claudio Enterprises Crushes Listless 40 Caliber, 20-4

Dec. 5, 2006 — Claudio Enterprises put on a power-hitting display at the D.C. Canegata ballpark Monday night against a sluggish 40 Caliber team that was walloped 21-4 in mercy rule five-innings game.
The Bob Owen Slow Pitch Softball League game showed the rest of the league just what Claudio Enterprises powerful lineup was capable of. In fact, behind a strong pitching effort from Claudio Enterprises ace, Julio Carmona, 40 Caliber was on the verge of really being blanked when they came up with four runs in the fifth — not nearly enough.
The victors pounded out 20 hits, included six homeruns. They received a huge offensive night from cleanup hitter, Alberto Medina who was 3-for-4, with three homeruns and four RBIs; Luis Moreno, 3-for-4, a homerun and four RBIs; and Juan Santana, who was 2-for-2 with a homerun and three RBIs. The lone bright spot in the 40 Caliber lineup was Angel torres who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
After a scoreless first, Claudio Enterprises would score every inning after that. They got four in the second on Santanas three-run shot and a solo shot off the bat of Medina.
They added four more in the top of the third on Luis Morenos three-run homerun and Medinas second solo shot to lead 8-0.
Seven more runs in the top of the fourth, aided by a plethora of 40 Caliber errors, all but sealed the deal for Claudio, as they now led 15-0.
They would complete their scoring in the top of the fifth by plating five more runs to lead 20-0. Coming to bat in the bottom of the inning, 40 Caliber knew they had to avoid the 10-run mercy rule being enforced.
However, their strategy appeared to be to just avoid the shutout. This they were able to do by coming up with four runs on a two-run single by Angel Soto, a solo homerun by Jamal Krigger and an RBI single by Wayne Scott.
