Dear Source:
I find Tony Mueller's letter both patronizing and insulting. Racial disharmony at its core stems from slavery. Now that the whites have purged themselves from their transgressions, and want to wipe the slate clean, we are suppose to forget our history and assimilate into Western culture. There is no doubt the Virgin Islands survive by tourism, but this is the system implemented by the colonialists. Why is it we can't be self-sufficient? We have enough natural resources to make it, and whether or not Mr. Mueller and his neocolonialists believe it, we WILL survive, with or without their dollars. The fact of the matter is the same book of fantasy they wrought upon us and called it the bible says, "you reap what you sow". The colonialists are paying for the sins of their fathers, the ones who created "Manifest Destiny" by slaughtering millions of American Indians, while infecting the rest with malaria filled blankets in the winter. So next time you want to threaten the Virgin Islands with "we will not come if you don't play nice" remember what is the root cause of your so called racial disharmony.
