Reminder of National Women's HIV Testing Day

June 7, 2006 – The American Red Cross of the Virgin Islands will conduct a tabletop presentation and distribute literature on National HIV Testing Day from noon to 4 p.m., on Tuesday, June 27, at Center Court in Tutu Park Mall.
Women, especially those who are at high risk of contracting HIV, will have the opportunity to learn about the female condom, see a demonstration of its use and get a sample. Literature and other products of interest to females will also be available. Free HIV testing, with results in approximately 30 minutes, will be conducted by St. Thomas East End Medical Center.
The Red Cross encourages women of the community to learn their status by getting tested. In the V.I. in 2005 females represented 20 percent of new cases, and of this group 56 percent were black and 39 percent Latina.
