UVI Extends Summer Session Registration for Education Personnel
The University of the Virgin Islands will extend in-person summer session registration for Department of Education personnel who must take extra courses to satisfy their V.I. Board of Education certification needs. In-person registration will be conducted on both campuses for Department of Education personnel only, until May 12. Department of Education personnel may also register on-line at www.uvi.edu. On-line registration for all current and prospective students is ongoing until May 15.
Online Registration for Summer Sessions, Fall Semester Now Available
Online registration is underway for UVI's Summer Sessions I and II. Online registration is also offered to continuing students for Fall Semester 2006 classes. Class schedules and detailed registration information are available from the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.
UVI Payment Plan Not Available for Summer Session Payments
The University of the Virgin Islands has announced that, due to the short duration of the 2006 summer sessions, the UVI payment plan for tuition and fees will not be available for these sessions. The payment plan will again be available for the fall 2006 semester. For details, call 693-1143 on the St. Thomas campus or 692-4199 on the St. Croix campus.
More than 300 to Earn Degrees from UVI May 15, 16
The University of the Virgin Islands will confer more than 300 degrees at its 42nd annual commencement ceremonies set for May 15 and 16. The St. Thomas campus ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 15, in the UVI Sports and Fitness Center. The St. Croix ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, on the campus grounds. Commencement Notes: St. Thomas Campus
Cap and Gown Pick Up — Prospective graduates may pick up academic regalia at the UVI Bookstore through May 8. The Bookstore is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Rehearsal to be Held May 11 — A mandatory commencement rehearsal for prospective graduates will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, in the Sports and Fitness Center. All prospective graduates are encouraged to be on time.
Commencement Notes: St. Croix Campus
Cap and Gown Pick Up — Prospective graduates may pick up academic regalia at the UVI Bookstore from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays until Monday, May 15.
Invitation Pick Up — Graduation packets can be picked up from Wendy Wheeler in room 801A from 9 a.m. to noon and again from 1-4 p.m. on Monday, May 8, and Tuesday, May 9. The packets include 11 invitations and two reserve seating tickets.
Rehearsal to be Held May 12 — A mandatory rehearsal for all prospective graduates will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12, on the St. Croix campus grounds. All prospective graduates are encouraged to be on time.
Concession Available — The St. Croix chapter of the Golden Key Honour Society will operate a concession stand on May 16, during commencement activities on the St. Croix campus. Fried chicken, johnny cakes, and beef, salmon and turkey burgers will be on sale. For details, call 772-0818 or 513-0029.

Dateline: UVI Covers Anti-Violence Rally, Employee and Student Awards
The latest issue of the monthly newsletter Dateline: UVI is now available from the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu. The April 25, 2006, issue includes photos and articles about a community rally against violence, UVI employees of the year on both St. Croix and St. Thomas, Student Employee of the Year on St. Thomas Jennifa Mohammed, and the UVI-Tom Joyner Talent Show on the St. Croix campus.
St. Thomas Campus SGA Newspaper UVIBE Now Available
UVIBE, the newspaper of the St. Thomas Campus Student Government Association, is now available on the St. Thomas campus. Copies can be purchased at the Student Activities Center.
Second Issue of UVI VOICE Student Newspaper Available Online
A Web version of the second issue of the UVI VOICE student newspaper is now available online. The May 2006 edition features cover photos of the 2006 UVI Carnival Troupe costumes and a photo essay from UVI's week-long Humanities Festival. Printed copies of the paper will be available on both campuses. The online version of UVI VOICE is available from the "Student," "Latest Links" and "Other UVI Sites" links on the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu.
Top VI Woodworkers Schedule Shows on St. Thomas, St. Croix
Some of the territory's top woodworkers will offer demonstrations of wood turning, wood carving, hollow turning and more at free, day-long shows scheduled for May 9 on St. Thomas and May 11 on St. Croix. Both shows follow evening seminars on the Business of Working With Wood. The shows and seminars are sponsored by the University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service in partnership with the V.I. Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council and the V.I. Department of Agriculture. A news release is available on the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu.
High School Juniors, Seniors Invited to Free College Residency Program
The University of the Virgin Islands Business Division, in partnership with International Capital & Management Company, invites interested high school juniors and seniors to join the College Business Residency Program. The annual summer program offers a free, two-week taste of college life on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Students stay in the UVI dorms and are exposed to various aspects of business education in classroom and field-trip sessions. Space for the program is limited to 20 individuals. Students from throughout the Virgin Islands are eligible. The program will be held from June 18 to June 30. The deadline to submit applications is May 30, 2006. Applications can be picked up from the principal's office at each school or from the Business Division Office at UVI. For further information, contact Jacinthe Proctor at 693-1300.
Participants Sought for UVI's 2006 Relay For Life Team on St. Thomas
Members of the UVI community are invited to join in the St. Thomas campus' 15-member 2006 Relay For Life team. Relay For Life, an annual fund raising event for the American Cancer Society, is scheduled for June 24-25 at the Charlotte Amalie High School track. Organizers describe the Relay as a fun-filled, overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs conducted by the American Cancer Society. UVI-SBDC to Observe Small Business Week May 8-13
The UVI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will celebrate Small Business Week in the Virgin Islands from May 8 through 13 with media appearances, seminars, clinics and the annual Small Business Awards Ceremonies. The activities are being held in conjunction with the U.S. Small Business Administration. Admission to all activities is free and the public is encouraged to attend. Encore of 'Queen Coziah' Drama Scheduled at UVI
The Sunshine Theatre presents "Queen Coziah," a drama written by Dr. Eddie Donahue, based on the 1892 coal carriers strike. Performances will take place in the UVI Little Theatre at 8 p.m. on May 19 and 21, with a Saturday matinee for senior citizens and students at 2 p.m. on May 20. Admission to the matinee is $5 for seniors and students with identification. Admission for all others is $15. A discussion will follow each performance. EXPORT Center Seeks Research Proposals on Health Disparities in U.S.V.I.
The EXPORT Center of the University of the Virgin Islands Division of Nursing Education invites submission of research proposals for review, approval and support. Proposals should address issues of health disparity affecting the people of the U. S. Virgin Islands. Limited financial support is available for conducting approved research studies. The deadline for submission is July 14. For details on the application process contact Drs. Title III Grant Proposals Sought from UVI Faculty, Staff
Interested UVI faculty and staff are invited to submit project proposals to be considered for inclusion in the 2007-2012 Title III, Part B Comprehensive Development Program. Proposals should be consistent with the theme for the 2007-2012 grant cycle — Enhancing Institutional Infrastructural Capacity for Support of Student Success. Projects to be funded should also be in harmony with at least one of the four strategic areas of focus approved by the UVI Board of Trustees: educational excellence, institutional improvement, financial sustainability and community engagement. Specific instructions, submission requirements and evaluation criteria are available on the UVI Title III web site. Click on the "Funding" link. Proposals should be submitted to the Office of Sponsored Programs and Title III by the close of business on Friday, Sept. 29, 2006.
