Governor Grants Carnival Time Off for Non-Essential Employees

April 8, 2006 – Many government workers will get time off to attend Carnival events from April 26 to 28, according to a recent proclamation issued by Gov. Charles W. Turnbull.
Non-essential government employees in the St. Thomas-St. John district will be granted administrated leave from noon to 5 p.m. April 26 to attend the Carnival Food Arts and Crafts Fair and from 8 a.m. to noon April 27 for J'Ouvert.
Administrative leave has been granted territorywide on April 28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Children's Parade.
Since April 28 is not a legal holiday, holiday pay will not be given to employees who do go to work.
Administrative leave is not granted to essential government employees, employees on a regular rotating shift or employees who have been granted annual or sick leave for the month of April.
Commissioners and agency heads are instructed to check the time and attendance of all employees during this period.
The Finance Department will review submitted payrolls, the proclamation included.
