Territorial MATHCOUNTS Competition Scheduled

March 22, 2006 – The 2006 MATHCOUNTS Competition will be held at 9 a.m., on Thursday, March 23, at the St. Croix Country Day School Pavilion. It is a national math enrichment, coaching and competition program that promotes school mathematics in every United States state and territory.
The Country Day School team, the St. Croix district champions, will face Antilles School, the St. Thomas-St. John district champions, in the territorial math competition. It will determine which coach will accompany the Virgin Islands team to the national competition on May 12, in Arlington, Virginia, at the Lockheed Martin Center.
The Antilles School students are: Nick Schmidt, Max Nickbarg, Tyler Rice and Makenzie Shaw. The St. Croix Country Day School students are: Jamesy Clavo, Hanifah Hendricks, William Neville and Emma Smith.
Eight other students will compete for a position on the V.I. MATHCOUNTS team: Julia Hogroran, Avneesha Mirpuri and Bailey Hilton of Antilles School, Lillian Mallory and Simone Brin of St. Croix Country Day, Gwendolyn Miller of St. Thomas-St. John Montessori School, Kristian Fennesy of Good Hope School and Mark Henry of Ricardo Richards Elementary School.
