Annual St. Croix Campus Health Fair Set March 21-22
The Health Service Center on UVI's St. Croix campus invites the entire University community to the seventh annual UVI Health Fair scheduled for March 21 and 22. Fair activities will include a blood drive, glucose testing, vision screening, HIV education and testing, and a number of workshops as follows:
— March 21: Nutrition: C-100, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.; Herbal Medicine: C-100, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.; General Health: C-100, 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m.; Chiropractic: Tent, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.; STI (sexually transmitted infections) Education: Great House, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.; Mental Health: Great House, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
— March 22: Fitness/Target Heart Rate: C-100, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.; STI Education: C-100, 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.; Herbal Medicine: C-100, 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Seminar on Small Business Loans Scheduled March 22 on St. Thomas
UVI's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in collaboration with FirstBank VI will present a free seminar titled ABCs of Small Business Loans from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, at the SBDC Training Facility at Nisky Center on St. Thomas. Presenters are FirstBank Vice President John McDonald and Anthony Morton, First Bank's commercial loan relationship officer. To pre-register, which is required, call 776-3206.
SHOP for Wealth Program to Help Young People Become Homeowners
UVI will host a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation initiative designed to help young people become homeowners at an early age. Named SHOP for Wealth, the program includes seminars on home ownership and a $1,000 stipend to qualified students for the purchase of a first home. This year's seminars are scheduled for March 21 and 23 on UVI's St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses. Also planned are pep rallies and giveaways. CLEP Exams Scheduled March 23 on St. Thomas Campus
College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests will be offered on UVI's St. Thomas campus on March 23, in Classroom Administration Building room 103 (the computer lab) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 693-1220. CLEP tests allow students to earn college credit in a variety of subject areas. Information on CLEP exams is available by calling 800-257-9558 or by visiting the College Board web site at: http://www.collegeboard.com/clep.
Career Expo/Conference Set for March 23 on St. Thomas
The University of the Virgin Islands will host a Career Exposition and Professional Development Conference on Thursday, March 23, on the St. Thomas campus. The Career Exposition, scheduled for 3-6 p.m. in the courtyard of the Ralph Paiewonsky Library and the walkway leading up to the library, will feature representatives from more than 25 companies. A list of participants and preparation tips for students are included with a news release that is available from the UVI website – www.uvi.edu.
St. Thomas Chapter of Phi Beta Lamda Plans Food Sale on March 25
St. Thomas campus student chapter of Phi Beta Lamda will present a food sale at noon on Saturday, March 25, to raise funds to send chapter members to a national competition in Nashville, Tenn. The sale will take place in the Dining Pavilion. Tickets are $10 and drinks will be on sale. For more information, contact President Taiesha Skelton at 692-2055.
Noted Saxophonist to Perform with UVI Jazz Ensemble on March 25
Alto Saxophonist Donald Harrison, known for the ground-breaking records "Indian Blues" and "Nouveau Swing," will perform in concert and host a music clinic on UVI's St. Thomas campus. The jazz clinic is scheduled for noon on Thursday, March 23, in the UVI Music Building. The clinic is free and open to the public. Harrison will also perform live in concert with the UVI Jazz Ensemble at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, in the UVI Dining Pavilion. UVI vocal artists Detra Davis and Vashti Hooker will also perform. St. Croix Class of 2006 Seeking Participants for Male/Female Auction
The St. Croix campus graduating class of 2006 will conduct a Male/Female Auction fundraiser on Friday, March 24, in the Cafetorium. Individuals wishing to participate should contact Florence Clercent at 692-4022.
St. Croix NABA Sets Conference Set for March 24-25
The St. Croix Student Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) will hold its 2006 NABA Conference on March 24 and 25 in the Melvin Evans Center on UVI's St. Croix campus. "Challenges & Opportunities in the Quest for Sound Financial Reporting" is the conference theme. NABA members, as well as interested students, faculty, staff and accounting professionals are invited to participate. Friday's sessions are planned from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Saturday, sessions will run from 9 a.m. to noon. A gala awards ceremony is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Hibiscus Beach Hotel. St. Croix Campus Spring Ball Scheduled for March 25
UVI's St. Croix Campus annual Spring Ball will be held on Saturday, March 25. The evening's theme is "A Night of Elegance and Beauty in Paris." The ball, which will be held in the Cafetorium, is open to UVI students, faculty and staff. Tickets are $25 per person and are available in the Residence Hall. St. Thomas Campus Freshman Students to Meet on March 30
A mandatory general meeting for all freshman students on UVI's St. Thomas campus is scheduled for Thursday, March 30, from noon to 1 p.m. in room 302 of the Classroom Administration Building. Information on advisement and registration, as well as academic and social opportunities will be presented. For more information, call 693-1226.
Speaker to Lecture on Will and the Power to Change
Patrice Gaines, a former heroin addict turned award-winning reporter who is now a motivational speaker will make presentations to St. Thomas' youth during March in recognition of National Collegiate Drug Awareness Month and Women's Month. Sponsored by the University of the Virgin Islands Office of the Associate Campus Executive Administrator, Gaines will lecture at UVI and the Charlotte Amalie High School. The lecture at UVI will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, in the Chase Auditorium (room B110). A news release is available on the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.
Tickets On Sale Today for UVI Little Threatre Spring Production
Tickets go on sale today (March 20) for UVI's Little Theatre spring production of the Carlo Goldoni play "The Servant of Two Masters." Adapted and directed by prominent American playwright Tom Ziegler, the play will be presented on April 1 through 4. Show time is 8 p.m. Tickets, $12 for adults and $6 for students, can be purchased at the UVI Bookstore, UVI Humanities Office, Dockside Bookshop and Nisky Mail Boxes.
UVI Sets Colloquium by Guest Director Tom Zeigler on March 30
UVI faculty, staff, students and friends are invited to a Humanities and Social Sc
iences Colloquium in the Little Theater from 12:30 to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 30. Tom Ziegler, prominent American playwright and guest director of the UVI Little Theatre's spring production of the play "The Servant of Two Masters," will speak on the history and production of the play. "The Servant of Two Masters" was written by Carlos Doldoni and adapted by Ziegler. It will run from April 1 through 4. For more information, contact Kristin Rozzell at 693-1359.
Talent Show Scheduled on UVI's St. Croix Campus for March 31
A Tom Joyner School of the Month fundraising talent show will be held at 7 p.m. for Friday, March 31, in the Cafetorium on UVI's St. Croix campus. The show is open to the VI community. Admission is $3. Performers for the show are being sought. To be eligible, individuals must be a UVI student or employee and have a talent. The registration deadline is Tuesday, March 21. Registration costs $1 for individuals and $2 for groups. Tryouts will be held on March 21 at 7 p.m. in the Cafetorium. All proceeds will go to help the Tom Joyner School of the month campaign initiatives.
UVI's 4-H Carnival Troupe Practicing on Sundays; New Members Welcome
UVI's 4-H Carnival Troupe is practicing every Sunday at 2 p.m. at the UVI Cooperative Extension Service parking lot on the St. Thomas campus. New members are welcome. For more information, contact Yvonne Phillips at 692-1078 or call the Extension Service office at 693-1080.
Old School-New School Basketball Jam Set for April 7
The public is invited to an Old School-New School Basketball Jam on Friday, April 7, on the University of the Virgin Islands' St. Thomas campus. The jam is part of the on-going Tom Joyner Foundation/UVI School of the Month fundraising effort. UVI's Buccaneers — women's and men's teams — will play the St. Thomas Women's All Stars and the Bandits, champions of the St. Thomas 40-plus league, respectively. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students. The Caribbean Ritual Dancers will perform at halftime. Games, relay races and hula hoop contests are planned. Prizes and giveaways will be held throughout the evening. The jam will take place in UVI's Sports and Fitness Center.
