Broadway Performer to Lend Her Talent to Chamber Event

March 20, 2006 — Bringing the Broadway to the St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce "A Night on Broadway" awards banquet Saturday, will be Broadway performer Jessica Hendy Reiff.
Reiff said she is excited about the opportunity to perform. "I'm looking forward to singing," she said over the weekend. "I really miss it. Any chance I get to sing is a privilege for me."
She sang at the 2005 Humane Society Valentines' "Doggie Ball," and that was "fun, a wonderful experience," she said.
Reiff has had roles in three musicals on Broadway — "Cats," "Amour," and, most recently, "Aida." She performed lead roles in both "Cats" and "Aida."
She has also toured the United States with "Cats," in which she starred as Grizabella, and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat." She also had lead roles several in regional theater performances, including "Songs for a New World," and "Miss Saigon."
She moved to St. Thomas with her husband nearly three years ago and opened a Pilates studio in the Jackson Complex at the Mark Marin Center at Antilles School. Though she said she is busy rehearsing, she wouldn't reveal ahead of time what songs she will bring to the event.
The ceremony will recognize five local stars at its annual banquet and dinner dance at 7 p.m. at St. Peter Greathouse. Five honorees will be recognized, including the awarding of the Wilbur "Bill" LaMotta Community Service Award., which is given to people who exhibit dedication, sincerity, forthrightness and ethics in the practice of their businesses or professions.
Chamber President Joe Aubain said that he is particularly pleased about this year's honorees, and about getting Reiff to perform. The honorees include an 82-year-old education pioneer on St. John, two community movers, and a design award for a recent and continuing embellishment to the island, as well as the student achievement award. Tickets are $125 per person, and may be reserved by calling the Chamber at 776-0100.
