Bastille Day Kingfish Tournament Set For July 16

March 17, 2006 – The Northside Sportfishing Club is having the Annual Bastille Day Kingfish Tournament beginning at 5:30 a.m., Sunday, July 16, at Hull Bay Hideaway, St. Thomas. The one-day inshore fishing tournament is one of many activities celebrating French Heritage Week. It has the best prizes and attracts more participants than any other of its kind in the Virgin Islands.
Last year it attracted 312 anglers, including 40 junior anglers, aboard 75 boats, who collectively caught 226 fish. Adam Quandt, aboard Bright Star, reeled in the largest kingfish, a 27.41-pounder, and took home prizes that included $2,000 in cash. There are a dozen award categories that include best boat, best captain, lady anglers, junior anglers, and other fish species like jack, bonito, tuna, mackerel and dolphin.
Fishing ends at noon and is followed by a beach side party at Hull Bay Hideaway, with food, music and fun lasting right up until the times for the awards ceremony. The tournament benefits the Joseph Sibilly School, St. Thomas Rescue, The American Red Cross and The Family Resource Center.
