Starving Artists Day Set for Sunday

March 15, 2006 — It's the place where you're likely to find straw baskets being woven on the spot, a variety of bright-colored clay vases and original paintings depicting Crucian scenery.
There is a bit of everything at the annual Starving Artists Day, now in its 18th year, which is scheduled for Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Whim Musuem grounds in Frederiksted.
Like years past, hundreds are expected to converge on the annual fair of sorts, being billed as "a great way to spend Sunday with family."
Sixty exhibitors are expected at this weekend's affair, which showcases various handmade wares, from arts and crafts to native food and drink.
Residents can take brief respites from the fun and activities to tour the Whim grounds or shop the museum store for gift ideas such as Cape Cod colonial candles and antique furniture, in addition to those on display during the festival.
If you decide to tour the grounds, don't miss the stone oven used long ago near the Great House. A 50-50 cash raffle drawing will be held at 4 p.m., so some lucky resident will have a chance to not only leave with some prized arts and crafts but some cash as well.
Admission is $5 and children are free.
