No New Leads in Latest Killing

March 6, 2006 – St. Croix police reported no new developments in the early Sunday morning shooting death of 25-year-old Dauodi Samuel Jr., who was shot and killed during a concert at the Country Club, the former New Drive Inn Theater.
The son of a veteran police officer, Samuel died at the scene of the shooting during a break in the Lady Saw concert, according to Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Hannah. Police were called around 4 a.m. Sunday to report a shooting had taken place inside the club, Hannah said. "Officers arrived to find a panic as thousands who had packed the theater were rushing to leave."
Published reports on Monday said the exits were padlocked and not accessible.
Police have not established a motive or identified a suspect, but it "appears to be retaliatory in nature," Hannah said. The assailants were alleged to have escaped in a white vehicle after Samuel was shot at close range.
The investigation is ongoing.
The killing was the fifth murder on St. Croix this year and the eighth in the territory.
