This versatile violinist expresses herself in equal flourish playing classical and jazz music to the thrill of audiences and critics alike.
Her love for music started with piano lessons when she was just four years old. She picked up the violin at age eight, and at age 12, she taught herself to play folk-blues guitar and started to write songs. By 15, she was improvising jazz piano.

The violinist has played stages throughout the United States and in Europe, including Carnegie Hall, The Apollo Theater, The Kennedy Center, Schoenberg Hall in Los Angeles and Switzerland's Tonahlle. Monroe has performed with Yo-Yo Ma and Arnold Steinhardt. On the jazz side, she has played with Max Roach, Reggie Workman, Percy Heath, Joe Lovano, Odean Pope, Cecil Bridgewater, Tyrone Brown, Renee Rosnes and Un Caine.
Monroe appeared in the Allan Miller documentary "Small Wonders" and the Wes Craven film "Music of the Heart," starring Meryl Streep.
Among her composing accomplishments, she wrote the music for two dramatic plays and an animated silent film short, plus her compositions and arrangements for the Uptown String Quartet have been heard on National Public Radio, "The Cosby Show" and "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood." She also has worked with Young Audiences, Strings for Schools, and given master classes at Berkeley College of Music, The Kennedy Center for Education and Boston Conservatory.
