Spring 2006 University Convocation Scheduled Jan. 11
UVI's Spring 2006 University Convocation is scheduled for 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Attendance is mandatory for UVI faculty and staff. UVI students and alumni are invited to attend. The session will be video-conferenced between St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses. On St. Croix, it will be available in Evans Center rooms: 401, 302a, 713 and 807. On St. Thomas it will be available in Teacher Education rooms: 101, 115 and 213 as well as in Chase Auditorium (Business 110). For details call the Office of the President at 693-1000.
Spring Semester Schedule Highlights
+ Continuing Student Registration …
The University of the Virgin Islands has extended online registration through today (Jan. 9), for continuing students enrolling in spring semester classes. The payment deadline for continuing students has also been extended through today (Jan. 9.)
+ New Student Registration …
Registration for new students is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 10, with late registration to be offered on Jan. 11 and 12. Spring classes will begin on Jan. 12, 2006.
+ New and Transfer student Orientation …
Orientation for new and transfer students began on Sunday, Jan. 8, with residence hall check-in on the St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses. Complete orientation schedules are available online from the links below.
UVI Offers Payment Plan for Spring Semester Tuition and Fees
Beginning today (Monday, Jan. 9), the University of the Virgin Islands will allow students the opportunity to pay tuition and fees in installments. The new payment plan service was developed at the request of UVI students. To take advantage of the new plan, students must enroll for six or more credit hours and they must pay 25 percent of total tuition and fees upon registration. The remaining 75 percent will be paid in three installments, with the first installment due on Feb. 5, 2005. For details, call UVI Business Offices — St. Croix at 692-4199; St. Thomas at 693-1143. UVI Business Offices on both campuses will be open until 6 p.m. today. Students who pay in full or those who join the new Payment Plan by Jan. 9 will avoid the $75 late registration fee.
UVI Strategic Directions Newsletter Now Available Online
The latest edition of UVI Strategic Directions, a newsletter covering UVI's ongoing efforts at strategic planning, is now available from the UVI web site www.uvi.edu. The newsletter includes a review of Strategic Plan 2000-2005 and an overview of Vision 2012, the strategic plan designed to lead the institution to its 50 anniversary in 2012. Vision 2012 is described as a collaborative effort that outlines goals, objectives and priorities designed to make UVI an exceptional U.S. institution of higher learning in the Caribbean.
Paving Project to Begin Today on St. Croix Campus
Work on paving the roadway behind the Student Center from the Motor Pool to the Physical Plant on UVI's St. Croix campus was scheduled to begin today, Monday, Jan. 9. The project also includes construction of approximately 40 additional parking spaces behind the Student Center, and paving of the parking area and roadway next to the Modular Building. The work, which is being done by V.I. Asphalt Products Corp., is expected to be completed in April. Information regarding traffic flow will be posted to facilitate access and minimize disruption of service. Pedestrians are asked to exercise caution and only use authorized walkways to access the tennis and basketball courts.
UVI President's Office Now Located in Sports and Fitness Center
UVI President Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster's St. Thomas campus office is now located on the second floor of the Sports and Fitness Center in space formerly occupied by Vice Provost Dr. Henry Smith. Dr. Smith has moved to the building formerly occupied by the President's Office (on the upper campus). Phone numbers for all personnel in the President's and Vice Provost's offices will remain unchanged.
Jazz With Joe Sample Set Saturday, Jan. 14, at UVI's Reichhold Center
Jazz pianist and composer Joe Sample will perform at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts on Saturday, Jan. 14. The show begins at 8 p.m. Joe Sample's passion for Jazz has led him to delve into the roots and history of the medium. In more than four decades as pianist, composer and popular jazz performer, Sample has become an integral, innovative, bestselling part of jazz history. Ticket outlets include: Parrot Fish, Modern Music (Havensight), Krystal & Gifts Galore, the UVI Bookstore and the Reichhold Box Office on St. Thomas, and Connections on St. John. United Way Benefit Scheduled Jan. 21 at the Reichhold Center
The United Way St. Thomas-St. John's 2005-2006 will sponsor a benefit concert featuring critically acclaimed jazz diva Dianne Reeves, alongside the Virgin Islands' own jazz artists Ron Blake and Reuben Rogers at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts on Jan 21. The show, which begins at 8 p.m., is titled "Jazz For A Cause." For ticket information, call the UVI Reichhold Center Box Office at 693-1559. For more information on the United Way, call 774-3185.
UVI's Upward Bound Program Slates Caribbean Cruise for Aug. 20-27
The Upward Bound Program at the University of the Virgin Islands has announced it will sponsor the Upward Bound Alumni, Family and Friends Fortieth Anniversary Caribbean Cruise from Aug. 20 through 27, 2006. Cruise ports-of-call will include San Juan, St. Thomas, Dominica, Barbados and Aruba. Space may be reserved for $75 per person. Payment plans are available and there is an option for boarding in St. Thomas.
