Brief: Power Out Overnight for Several Hours

St. Thomas was completely in the dark from 12:30 a.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. A short in an internal cable that supplies power to the high voltage system for distribution purposes caused the island-wide outage, according to a release from the Water and Power Authority.Under such conditions the plant automatically shuts down for protection and safety purposes, the release, sent around 5 a.m., said. . WAPA had to identify and isolate the problem before restoring service to its customers.
Power was restored to all feeders by 4 a.m. the authority said.
