Little is Known About Shooting at Island Blues

Dec. 7, 2005 –– A St. John man was shot late Tuesday at Island Blues bar in Coral Bay.
"The victim believes it was an accident," police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Hannah said Wednesday.
Hannah said the 10:45 p.m. incident was not part of a robbery, fight or drive-by shooting.
He declined to give the victim's name because it is department policy not to do so. He did not have the victim's age.
Hannah said the man was in good condition at Schneider Regional Medical Center.
"The victim indicated he was sitting at the bar when he heard what sounded like a loud clap," Hannah said.
He said that when the man lifted his shirt, he noticed he had been shot. He said the man walked toward the western end of the bar and collapsed.
Hannah said the bullet from a small caliber weapon entered the man's right side and exited the left.
He said the man told police that he believes the person who shot him was standing to the right of him. Hannah said the victim told police the man to the right of him was acting suspiciously. Hannah said the victim indicated he knows the person.
Hannah said that police from the Coral Bay Substation responded quickly. He did not know how long it took. And, he said that police cars from the Cruz Bay station also responded.
The person who answered the phone Wednesday at Island Blues said there was no comment on the incident.
Island Blues was also the scene of a Nov. 6 armed robbery.
