Bomb Threats Received at University and Airport

Nov. 28, 2005 – A bomb threat called into the University of the Virgin Islands Melvin H. Evans Center for Learning at about 5:30 p.m. Monday caused a great deal of disruption, according to Sgt. Thomas Hannah, V.I. Police Department spokesman.
He said roads around the university including the Melvin Evans Highway had to be closed which caused problems for people trying to get home.
He said many of the UVI students were especially upset because they were preparing for final exams when their classes had to be cancelled.
He said life on St. Thomas was also disrupted when a bomb threat was called in at the Cyril King Airport just 15 minutes after the one at the St. Croix campus.
Hannah said, "This is a very serious offense. These threats are being treated as terrorist threats. I would hate to be the first one caught and charged with this offense." The V.I.Police Department, Fire Services, Department of Planning and Natural Resources, and VITEMA all took part in the search of the university, according to Hannah.
He said the all clear was give at UVI at about 8:10 p.m. and at 7:45 p.m. at the King Airport.
