Man Shot and Killed at St. Croix Shopping Center

Nov. 25, 2005 – Miguel Ayala, 24, of Watergut Homes, was found shot to death at the Estate Diamond Ruby shopping center early Thanksgiving morning.
Sgt. Thomas Hannah, police department spokesman, said a call was received at 6:19 a.m. that an injured man was lying in a pool of blood.
Ayala was pronounced dead at 8:40 a.m. at Gov. Juan Luis Hospital. Hannah said the subject died from a single gun shot to the face.
He added that the preliminary investigation indicated that the shooting might have been a retaliatory act. He said Ayala was not unknown to the police department.
There are no suspects as yet and the investigation is ongoing.
This is the 21st homicide on St. Croix and the 38th in the territory.
