Oct. 5, 2005 – The United Way of St. Croix, Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center, and Pavia Information Center will host a free Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) early detection clinic for men who are 40 years and older on St. Croix on Oct. 29, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 30, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Juan Luis Hospital.
PSA is a substance which is found in the prostate gland and can sometimes be abnormally high in men who have prostate cancer. A PSA greater than four is considered abnormal. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. It is more common in older men, Black men and men with family history of prostate cancer. Early detection may save lives and prostate cancer is treatable if detected early.
According to a press release, the United Way of St. Croix, the hospital and Pavia Information Center encourage men, to take advantage of this opportunity.
