A Reader Commends Claudette Lewis About Libraries

Ms. Claudette Lewis is to be highly commended for her strong statements about the condition of the libraries and the lack of emphasis on literacy in our community. Very seldom do government officials speak the truth or make the hard, strong statements when they testify before the senators. This is the second time in the past two weeks that she has been called to testify, and both statements clearly put the priority where it should be to improve the value of literacy for everyone. Quite possibly, her lack of reticence is a result of the committee chairman, Senator Davis, who clearly is not trying to find fault but rather open dialogue in order to bring about improved conditions. Hopefully, this is the beginning of a period of enlightenment.
