News Brief: 2nd Bomb Threat This Week Snarls Traffic

Sept. 9, 2005 – A reported bomb threat at the Finance Department led to the building being evacuated Friday afternoon.
Bernice Turnbull, Finance commissioner, said she had been attending funeral on St. Croix when the incident took place and didn't know much about what had happened.
An unnamed source said workers at the department left the building a little before 1 p.m. They re-entered the building about an hour later.
The bomb squad did respond, according to St. Thomas Deputy Police Chief Elvin Fahie Sr., who had not been on the scene, he said.
The evacuation and response led to traffic tie ups on the Waterfront for the second time this week.
On Wednesday, a bomb threat called into the Legislature emptied that building and Vendor's Plaza while the bomb squad searched the area. Traffic was snarled and delayed thanks to that threat and ensuing evacuation and investigation.
Fahie said Friday night he did not want to speculate about the impetus for the threats.
