Wall2Wall Triathlon Attracting Athletes From Islands and States

Aug. 20, 2005 – Athletes from as far south as Grenada and as far north as Colorado will join the best in the Virgin Islands at the Toyota Wall2Wall Triathlon on Sept. 25.
"Each year generous sponsors like Cruzan Rum and small businesses like A Better Copy donate great prizes to draw racers into this challenging, but fun, 800-yard swim, 16-mile bike ride and three- mile run event," said Ray Lutz, race director.
He added "All the proceeds go to local charities and nonprofit groups. We get to play on the beautiful St. Croix North Shore and the proceeds are donated to the VI Special Olympics and the V.I. Track and Field Federation. That's a win-win situation."
The Wall2Wall Triathlon is the capstone event of the five-event local triathlon season. It determines who are the best endurance athletes in the USVI and BVI.
"These top athletes are dedicated to fitness, but so are the folks who finish in the middle of the pack and old, slow guys like me who finish towards the rear. That's why we structured the awards differently from other events. Top finishers are recognized, but regular people can also win super prizes. It's about getting out and having fun and winning a prize is always fun." Lutz said.
"We encourage first-time participants, experienced triathletes and relay teams. By working with the other sponsors and the volunteers we'll give spectators and racers alike the best Sunday morning of the year. It's great to see the Police Department, St. Croix Rescue and so many others donate their time to help up raise money for great causes. That's what's great about our community. We try to care about each other and can work together to have fun and support good causes." noted Scott Fricks, manager of Toyota St. Croix, the major event sponsor.
Entry forms for the event are available at Endurance Sports on St. Thomas and St. Croix or at endurancesportsvi.com.
The entry donation of $25 gets each participant a T-shirt, a mesh bag full of gifts and sundries. Call 332-9866 for more information.
Register in advance as there will be not registrations allowed on race day and the race will be capped at 125 participants to insure the best standards of safety and support are maintained.
