Suitcases for Kids Program Donates to Foster Care Children

Aug. 19, 2005 – St. Thomas Board of Realtors president, Berenice Moran, challenged the membership to sponsor "Suitcases for Kids," a program started by the National Association of Realtors to provide suitcases or backpacks to foster children who are moved around from home to home. According to a press release from the Board of Realtors, Moran contacted Etta Rahming, district manager of the Intervention-Unit Protective Foster Care Component of the Department of Human Services, and arranged for the donation of 40 suitcases and backpacks to be used by the children in foster care. Rahming explained that these children sometimes had no alternative but to move their belongings in plastic bags. The realtors overwhelmingly responded to Moran's call to participate in the "Suitcases for Kids" program, and the presentation of the bags took place on Friday, Aug. 12, at the department.
