Aug. 15, 2005 – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen said today that she was saddened to learn of the passing of Edith deJongh Woods and expressed her condolences to her husband John, her four children, and the Woods, deJongh, and Dukes circle of family and friends.
"I have known Edith and her family for many, many years and was shocked to learn of her passing because I was assured that she was recovering well after a recent illness in late June," Christensen said on Sunday.
The delegate remembered Edith Woods as a caring and dedicated Virgin Islander whose advocacy in preserving our territory's history and unique architecture is legendary. Her passion inspired and influenced her children and many of her former art students, many of who followed in her footsteps.
"I always looked forward to reading her columns in the Daily News because each and every one was a lesson in history and heritage," Christensen said.
"On behalf of my family, staff and the 109th Congress, I join the entire community in expressing condolences to the family and in remembering the lifelong contributions that Edith Woods has made to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
