Celebrity Golf Classic Features Football, Golf Clinics

July 9, 2005 – Although a golfer might feel like a quarterback sacked 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage when he misses a short birdie putt, and it might look like illegal piling on when his fellow golfers say with a twinkle in their eye "That is too bad," golf and football are seldom combined like the Foundation for the University of the Virgin Islands is doing it at Carambola Golf Club.
Along with the Celebrity Golf Classic, the foundation is sponsoring free sports clinics on July 15.
Former National Football League players James Stewart of the Detroit Lions and Tim Walton of the Philadelphia Eagles will join current NFL players Kevin Vickerson of the Miami Dolphins, Keyaron Fox of the Kansas City Chiefs, Stanley Wilson of the Detroit Lions and Jason Campbell of the Washington Redskins at the football clinic on the green at UVI's St. Croix campus from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
For those interested in pure golf, PGA Tour qualifier Tim O Neal will lead young golfers in a free golf clinic at Carambola on Friday from 9 until 10:30 a.m.
It is all part of the Foundation for the University of the Virgin Islands Celebrity Golf Classic, which takes place July 14 through 17.
The foundation is still looking for golfers to team up with celebrities from the NFL, the NBA and the entertainment industry.
Registration fees for golfers on July 16 are $120 for individuals and $300 for groups of three. The fees include participation in the tournament, and admission to the awards ceremony and the barbecue buffet. An entry fee of $30 will be charged to individuals interested in only watching the tournament. The $30 fee will allow admission to the awards ceremony and the barbeque buffet.
