St. Thomas Loses Two of its Oldest Residents in June

July 6, 2005 – Two of the St. Thomas' oldest residents died recently.
Clara Pepin died at the age of 102 on June 22. Viola Monsanto was 101 when she died on June 29.
Pepin lived on St. Thomas for 10 years with her daughter, Peace Corps School teacher Carol Eby.
Monsanto's husband was the late David Monsanto, whose names graces the Emancipation Garden bandstand.
She is survived by daughters Dorris Monsanto and Clarice Monsanto-Roper. She is also survived by her sister is Ubaldina Simmons and nieces Beryl Simmons Samuel and Eldra Simmons and five grandchildren.
A funeral service for Monsanto will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at City Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Gov. Charles Turnbull extended his condolences to both the Pepin and Monsanto families.
"We mourn the passing of these two matriarchs who contributed so much to their families, loved ones and their communities during their long and productive lives," he said in a news release.
