Choice Makes High-Speed Internet Access Available

July 1, 2005 – Choice Communications has made a giant stride toward increasing the availability of high-speed Internet access on St. Thomas.
WiMax, a wireless broadband Internet connection technology, has made its way to the Virgin Islands thanks to Choice’s commitment to keep the Islands at the cutting edge of broadband technology. "And the beauty of this new technology," according to Steven Parrish, Choice Chief Executive Officer, "is that WiMax is a do-it-yourself system. You come into our office, sign-up for high-speed Internet service, and leave with a wireless receiver the size of a paperback book." The device comes with easy-to-understand instructions and supports a variety of broadband Internet speeds.
"Once you get the device home, it takes 15 minutes or less to set it up, " Parrish said. "There are no installation visits to schedule or pay for, no waiting for technicians to arrive, and no delay in getting up and running with high-speed Internet access."
Choice has already deployed WiMax in the Charlotte Amalie area. To sign-up for high-speed Internet service, prospective customers should visit Choice Communications at their newly remodeled Havensight location. WiMax will be extended to include the southeastern portion of St. Thomas over the next few weeks. The company plans to blanket the territory with WiMax technology in the coming months. "The devices will be compatible with all future WiMax standards as they are currently envisioned," Parrish said.
WiMax provides broadband wireless Internet access over licensed radio spectrum to business and residential subscribers. There is no interference from outside sources or other providers. The technology is so simple that it is easy for customers to deploy themselves.
Choice Communications is a leading Internet provider in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Choice Communications also provides Wireless Digital Cable and other services to residential and commercial establishments.
