Plaskett Little Leagues East Win Championships

June 27, 2005 – Did the East All-stars in both the 9-10 and 11-12 year-old divisions defend their titles as St. Croix champions of the Elmo Plaskett Little League? That question was decided this past weekend in two best-of-three series at the Renholdt Jackson Ballpark in Estate Whim on the west end of island.
Friday in the 9-10 division game one, Jordan Scott struck out nine batters while walking none as the East All-stars held on for the 5-3 win over the West All-stars even though the West team out hit the East 7-2. Marcus Farrington suffered the loss. Scott (1-2) and Ashante Lawrence (1-3) combined for the East's only two hits. Leading the West was Edward Peter (3-3, RBI) and Rasheed Swanston (2-3, RBI).
Saturday in game two, the East's bats came alive as they topped the West 12-2 to sweep the series and to repeat as the EPLL 9-10 division champions. Juan Moreau was the winning pitcher, helping his cause by driving in a run. Edward Peter was the losing pitcher. Leading the East were Moreau (2-3, RBI), Ashante Lawrence (1-2, 2 RBI) and Jordan Scott (1-3, 2 RBI).
The EPLL East 9-10 All-stars will now represent St. Croix at the V.I. District Championship. They will host the St. Thomas 9-10 Champions (Alvin McBean East) at D. C. Canegata Ballpark east of Christiansted. The best-of-three series takes place August 5-7, 2005. The winner of that series will represent the Virgin Islands at the Caribbean Tournament, scheduled September 1-7 in Monterrey, Mexico.
In the 11-12 division Friday, the East All-stars easily took game one over the West All-stars 14-4. The winning pitcher was Chaquille Joseph and the loss went to Shaquille Urgent. The East out hit the West 10-3 led by Mark Knight (3-3, RBI), Delroy Menzies (1-2, RBI), Mickey Garcia (2-2, RBI), Frank Wilson (1-1, RBI) and Carlos Perez (1-1, HR, 2 RBI) who came on in the fifth inning to blast a 2-run homerun. Leading the West was Gregory McNeal (1-3), Michael Pesante (1-1) and Jeffrey Bryant (1-2, 2 RBI).
Saturday, there was controversy as the West had filed a protest of Friday night's game. According to the Little League Rules, the protest must be decided before the next game can be played. Following Little League protocol, including a call to Williamsport, the international home of Little League, the protest was denied and the game was postponed to the next day.
The Sunday afternoon game two took very little time as the East All-stars easily defended their title as St. Croix 11-12 Champions, sweeping the series 2-0. Jahmoy Williams pitched a one-hitter as the East topped the West 11-1 by the ten-run rule after five innings. Michael Pesante was the losing pitcher. Perfect at the plate were Williams (4-4, 3 RBI) and Frank Wilson (2-2, 2 RBI) for the East. The West's only hit came from Shaquille Urgent (1-2).
The EPLL 11-12 East All-stars will represent St. Croix in the Latin American Regional Tournament that will be held on St. Croix at the Paul Joseph Stadium the week of July 24-31. The winner of that tournament will travel to Williamsport to participate in the Little League World Series tournament.
