June 22, 2005 – Sen. Celestino A. White Sr. has written to Gov. Charles Wesley Turnbull reminding him of an earlier request for his administration to organize the appropriate ceremonies on Water Island to mark the historic final transfer of Water Island from the Department of Interior to the V.I. government.
"I believe it is a significant accomplishment for the Turnbull Administration and worthy of the appropriate recognition," said the senator. He wrote to Gov. Turnbull on May 24, 2005, applauding him and Mr. James O'Bryan for their quiet diplomacy and successful conclusion of the final transfer of some 200 acres of Water Island to the local government. "My voice was at times loud and boisterous. When I thought no one was listening, you were," he stated.
"While Water Island residents may not be rejoicing, I am certain the overwhelming majority of Virgin Islands residents are. Are we still afraid?" asked Sen. White.
