UVI's Second Summer Session Begins June 22; In-Person Registration Set June 15
The University of the Virgin Islands will conduct its second summer session of 2005 on its St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses from Wednesday, June 22, through Thursday, July 28. Information, class schedules and on-line registration are available via the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu. Online (Banweb) registration is available through June 14.
In-person registration is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. on both campuses on Wednesday, June 15. The last day to pay for classes for the second summer session is also June 15. For more information, check the UVI home page or call 693-1160 on St. Thomas or 692-4158 on St. Croix.
UVI 4-H Summer Academy Offered on St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix
The UVI Cooperative Extension Service is offering 4-H Summer Academies for students ages 5 to 14 on St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix. The academies will run from June 27 through August 5. Daily sessions are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. General registration began on June 1 and continues as long as vacancies exist. There is still space available at all sites (though St. Croix only has vacancies for students ages 8-10). The academies will be held at Kirwan Terrace School on St. Thomas, Julius Sprauve School on St. John, and Central High School on St. Croix. The fee is $150 per child (and $125 for each additional family member). The children of UVI employees will be charged half-price. UVI-CES Sets Swine Production Workshop for June 15 on St. Croix
The UVI Cooperative Extension Service and the V. I. Department of Agriculture will conduct a Swine Production and Management Workshop from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, in Room 133 of the UVI Research and Extension Center on the St. St. Croix campus. Topics to be discussed include housing, nutrition, sanitation and general management. All small livestock farmers having questions on any other livestock production and management issues are also invited. For further information, contact Kofi Boateng at 692-4066 or 692-4069.
UVI Seeks Team Members for 2005 'Relay for Life' Cancer Event
UVI President Dr. LaVerne Ragster has issued a request for individuals who would like to join in an ad hoc team that will plan UVI's participation in the 2005 "Relay for Life," the annual event that serves as the National Signature Celebration for the American Cancer Society. This year's St. Thomas "Relay for Life" is scheduled for June 25-26. UVI-CELL Accepting Students for June-August Courses
UVI's Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVI-CELL) Center is accepting students in the following courses: Real Estate Sales, Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aid, Intermediate AutoCAD and Basic Computer Graphics. Real Estate Sales
Prepare for the licensing exam and gain valuable tips of the trade from successful real estate professionals with this course.
– Date: July 18 to August 11
– Time: 5:30 -8:30 p.m. Monday/Tuesday/Thursday
– Fee: $450
– Location: UVI-CELL Center, St. Thomas
Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide (CNA/HHA)
This 120 hour course will prepare students to take the certification exams to become a USVI Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide (CN/HHA).
– New Date: June 23 to August 30, 2005
– Time: 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays & Thursday & Saturdays 9 am to 4 p.m.
– Fee: $875 (includes manual and medical kit)
– Location: St. Thomas Campus
Intermediate AutoCAD (revised dates)
This course will teach individuals to do more with two-dimensional civil, architectural and mechanical drawings.
– Date: July 1 to July 22, 2005
– Time: 5:30 – 7:30p.m. Wednesday & Friday
– Fee: $600
– Location: CELL Center – St. Thomas
Basic Computer Graphics
This course will provide techniques for designing business cards, creating captivating newsletters and preparing attention-getting brochures with a professional flair.
– Date: July 12 to August 11, 2005
– Time: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday & Thursday
– Fee: $425 (includes jump drive)
– Location: CELL Center – St. Thomas
