June 14, 2005 – Monroe Alexander Dalmida was born on August 26, 1916 to Ferdinand and Charlotte Adina Wells Dalmida on St. John, Virgin Islands. He passed away at age 88 and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 5, 2005.
Dalmida was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War who was drafted into the military in 1944 and stationed at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. He married Leona Smith on April 3, 1953. They came to reside in Aberdeen hwere Dalmida was stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. He was a driver for the officers and retired from serving in the military in 1956 after 10 years. He began working at the Perry Point Veterans Administration Hospital in Perryville, Md., in the housekeeping department. He worked at the Veterans Administration for 36 years.
One of his greatest contributions to the community was the ground breaking of Aberdeen Bible Church, Aberdeen, Md. For many years he was a faithful and committed member and sung in the church choir. He attended Bible School at the Military Christian Servicemen Center in Aberdeen and received many certificates for Bible courses that he completed. He and his road partners, Brother Greer McMillan and Brother Russell Christy, would witness to those who did not know the Lord as their personal Savior. They kept numerous prayer journals of prayer requests, and once the prayers were answered, they were recorded in the journals with the actual date. He continued to work in the church until his sickness when he retired in 1979.
His siblings were Alfred, Carl, Emmanuel, James, Kathrine (all predeceased), and Augusta Dalmida-Knight who lives on St. Thomas, V. I. Monroe and Leona raised three daughters and two sons: Megan Dalmida, Estelle Dalmida Jones, Nicole Dalmida Edwards, Steven Ryan Dalmida, and Walter Lee Dalmida. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Leona Dalmida, one sister, Augusta Dalmida, two sons-in-law, Brian A. Edwards and Joseph H. Jones Jr., ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
Interment was held at Garrison Forrest Military Cemetery Owings Mills, Md., Monday, June 13, 2005.
