Little League East Action Heavy at Canegata Ballpark

March 21, 2005 – There were six games played this past weekend in the Elmo Plaskett Little League East.
Friday evening at Canegata Ballpark in the 9-10 contest between the Reds and Suns, the game was tied 5-5 after three innings. Jose Cirilio (2 for 4) RBI single in the 4th inning along with an unearned run gave the Reds a 7-5 lead. The Suns answered with a run in the bottom of the 4th and Ashante Lawrence (2 for 2, 2 RBI) blasted an RBI single in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game at 7 apiece. The Suns scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the 6th to defeat the Reds 9-7. Jareem Joseph got the win. Leonardo Castillo took the loss. The Suns also got from Etheldred Christopher who was 3 for 3. Daniel Cruz (2 for 4, HR) was the top hitter for the Reds.
In Friday’s nightcap, the Yankees were looking for their first win as they faced the Suns in the 11-12 years division contest. The Yankees took at 4-2 lead in the top of the 4th inning. The Suns pitcher Carlos Perez (3 for 3, 3 RBI) helped his cause with a 2 RBI double in the 5th. The Suns scored two more runs and went on to top the Yankees 6-4. Mikey Garcia took the loss. Daniel Franco (1-1, RBI) led the Yankees.
In Saturday’s 7-8 years old division, The Lil Yankees II and the Mets played to a 9-9 tie.
Lil Yankees II got homeruns from Evanston Matthews Jr. (2 for 3, HR, 3 RBI) and Julan Walters (1 for 2, HR). Leading the Mets were T’Shada Bates (2-2, 2 RBI) and Rakeem Richardson (1-2, 2 RBI).
In the 9-10 years division, the Yankees remained unbeaten on the season with the win over the Suns 7-3. Ray Parilla picked up the win. Ashante Lawrence suffered the loss. The Yankees were led by Karif Martineau (2 for 3, HR, 2 RBI) and Leroy Simmonds III (1-2, HR, 2 RBI). Etheldred Christopher (1-2) drove in a run for the Suns.
Sunday featured two Pee Wee Contests. In the first game it was Toon Squad 2 vs Toon Squad 1. Toon Squad 2 scored eight runs in the second powered by a grand slam by Giovanni Ford (2 for 3, HR, 6 RBI). Toon Squad 2 lead 15-12. In the bottom of the third, Toon Squad 1 scored 9 runs led by Diante Brook's (3 for 3, 2 HR, 7 RBI) 3-run homerun.
Toon Squad 1 bested Toon Squad 2 by the score 21-13. Malik Williams (2 for 3, HR, 2 RBI) also was a lead batter in the win. Garnet Harland (4 for 4, HR, 2 RBI) led Toon Squad 2.
In the final game Sunday, Reneah Guzman (4 for 4, HR, 5 RBI) blasted a grand slam in the 4th as Lil Yankees 2 defeated Lil Yankees 1 in the 7-8 years old division.
Lil Yankees 2 also got multiple homeruns from Rakeem Richardson (2-3, 2 HR, 5 RBI) and Duval Briscoe (3 for 3, 2 HR, 4 RBI). Conroy Samuel (4-4, 3 HR, 5 RBI), Sergio Santiago (3 for 3, 2 HR, 4 RBI), and Deandre Simmonds (3-3, 2 HR, 2 RBI) lead Lil Yankees 1.
The EPLL East will take a break for the Easter holidays. The games will continue during the weekend of April 1-3 at Canegata Ballpark.
