Education Department Joins 'Year of Languages' Celebration

March 8, 2005 – The V.I. Education Department will celebrate "2005: The Year of Languages" along with other agencies across the United States and locally.
The department's foreign languages coordinator will work with teachers to sponsor language-related activities at all public schools, aimed at highlighting the importance of adding a second language into our students' lives, a release said.
Quoting from the release: "One of man's most important distinctions from all other forms of life is his ability to verbally express his thoughts and feelings or pass information to another person through the use of language.
Today the knowledge of languages and the cultures which surround them has become more significant than ever before. Foreign language educators believe that misconceptions, prejudices, confusion and confrontations can be avoided if people were to study, appreciate and understand the language and culture of others."
