Freddie McGregor and Inner Visions to Perform at Reichhold Center

Feb. 17, 2005 — Reggae artists Freddie McGregor and Inner Visions will perform at the Reichhold Center for the Arts at 8 p.m, Saturday, March 5.
McGregor is a classic reggae entertainer. An internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter and producer, McGregor has had more than 40 successful years in the music business and is considered Jamaica's most consistent recording artist.
McGregor was born in Clarendon, Jamaica in 1956. At seven years old, 'Little' Freddie McGregor began singing backup for a local ska harmony duo called the Clarendonians. McGregor was influenced by producer Clement Dodd of Jamaica's Studio One and began developing his own style, incorporating the smooth sounds of American soul artists like Stevie Wonder, Eddie Levert, and the late Phillipe Wynne of the Detroit Spinners.
In 1975 McGregor converted to Rastafarianism, which had a profound impact on his lyrical content. Working with Earl Smith, he recorded the classics "Rastaman Camp" and "I Am Rasta." These were followed by many others including "Mark of the Beast," "Sergeant Browne," "Zion Chant," "Africa Here I Come," and "Bobby Bobylon."
In 1989, McGregor launched his own record label, Big Ship, with "Jamaica Classics Volume One" as the first major release. The demand was so great that two more volumes followed. The project not only kept McGregor vibrant in the marketplace, but it also provided an opportunity for him to share his creativity and guidance while supporting a new generation of aspiring young artists.
McGregor continues to please reggae fans and music lovers all over the world with recent performances for South African President Nelson Mandela and Charles, Prince of Wales. In 2003, McGregor was given the Award of Excellence by Jamaica's Prime Minister P.J. Patterson. With his most recent album "Anything For You" nominated for a Grammy, Freddie McGregor continues to soar to new heights, gaining international notoriety in the music industry and beyond.
Opening for McGregor is the Virgin Islands' own Inner Visions, long considered "The Virgin Islands' Best Kept Secret." But with more than 20 years of exposure and a reputation for conscious lyrics, sweet harmonies and strong vocals, Inner Visions is no longer a secret. Inner Visions' collection includes the albums "Love One Another," "Spiritual Dance," "Street Corner," and their most notable hit single "Shala-la."
