Police Seeking Information on Dead Homeless Man

Jan. 28, 2005 – Police are seeking information on the death of a man who was found Thursday morning on the porch of a vacant building on King Street in Frederiksted.
In a release from his office, Sgt. Thomas Hannah, Police Department spokesman, said the unidentified man was found after a 7 a.m. call was made to the 911 emergency number. Hannah said the cause of the man's death was under investigation.
Emergency medical personnel, who responded to the scene, confirmed he was dead. An autopsy will be performed to determine when and how the man died, according to Hannah.
Though police later identified the black man who, Hannah said, "appeared to be over 50 years of age," they have not released his name pending notification of next of kin – whom they are still seeking.
Hannah said the man was a "homeless person, who walked frequently throughout the town of Frederiksted."
"We are requesting the assistance of residents of St. Croix, particularly Frederiksted, who may have knowledge or information related to this situation and who can help find the deceased's relatives," Hannah said.
The police are asking anyone who may be able to offer information on relatives or the circumstances of the man's death to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau on St. Croix at 778-2211, ext. 4531 or 4535; emergency 911; or the Crime Hotline at 778-4950.
All information will remain confidential, Hannah said.
