Parents to Hear From Education Expert

Jan. 24, 2005 – Robert Fried, associate professor of Education at Northeastern University in Boston, will be the speaker at a parents workshop, sponsored by The Caribbean Association of Independent Schools in conjunction with the member schools on St. Thomas.
Fried, the author of two books on education, "The Passionate Teacher" and "The Passionate Learner," works with teachers in schools around the country.
A release from Antilles School said the subjects covered in the workshop would be: Helping our kids succeed in school without losing the spark of learning–what parents can do to promote "passionate learning" in children; how do we help keep our kids on track for academic success while at the same time being supportive of our kids' unique learning spirit, so that they come, increasingly, to own their own learning, rather than relying on us to 'stay on top of them' until they are safely in college?
The workshop will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mon. Jan. 31 on the second floor of the Kimelman Library at Antilles School. There is no charge for the workshop.
