Jan. 23, 2005 – As she strutted on stage with cowboy hat and boots, the 33-year-old professional hairstylist from Nashville, Tenn., dared the audience to take their eyes off her Saturday night at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center.
Robin Wilson managed to capture the heart of the international panel of judges and won the title of Ms. International Bold and Beautiful 2005.
Wilson, one of nine women vying for the title in the pageant for full-figured women, also won Best Costume and Ms. Intellect as well.
Wilson's cowboy ensemble during the costume presentation, which was supposed to reflect one's homeland, won her the Best Costume title.
First runner-up was Kahailia Beach, a 25-year-old marketing research supervisor from St. Vincent. Beach wowed the crowd with her original song "Love Song Blues" and claimed the title of Best Talent.
Second runner-up Roxanne Whitfield, a 32-year-old teacher at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School on St. Thomas, was resplendent as she waltzed onto the stage in a dazzling red grown. Her smile was as bright as the jewels around her neck and the sequins on the beautiful gown that won her the Best Evening Wear title.
Sheila Rodriguez, an 18-year-old university student from Puerto Rico, placed third and 23-year-old Anna-Maria John of Dominica won fourth place.
The title of Ms. Congeniality was awarded to 23-year-old La Verne Roberts, a counselor and youth coordinator from Trinidad and Tobago.
Also competing in the pageant were:
– Tammi David, a 22-year-old clothing designer from the British Virgin Islands.
– Camar Clarke, a 21-year-old court reporter from Barbados.
– Maggie Ventura, a 44-year-old bank employee from the Dominican Republic.
Features of the event were the costume presentation, swimwear, talent, evening gown and onstage interview segments of the competition.
The crowd was also entertained by B.E.S.T. (Brothers Engaged in Serious Things) and several dance numbers featuring the 2004 Ms. International Bold and Beautiful Valda Bruno of Dominica.
"In past years, we have celebrated women who represent a minority of those around the world," Kimberly Rodriquez, pageant producer, said in her letter in the pageant booklet. "I am pleased and honored to be a part of an organization that celebrates the total woman. The International Bold and Beautiful Organization is redefining the definition of 'ideal beauty' and bringing it full circle."
