Schools, Guardians of Culture Capture Some Top Spots

Jan. 11, 2005 – The Crucian Christmas Festival Committee announced the winners of the various festival categories on Monday. School entries captured several top spots.
The Ricardo Richards Guardians of Our Culture Mocko Jumbies took double honors capturing first place spots in both the children's and adult's parade for their category.
In troupes over 100 the St. Croix Educational Complex danced their way to first place with their depiction of "The Gem of the VI." St. Mary's Steel Pan Band was awarded first place in the adult's parade and second place in the children's parade. Other first place winners included Hovensa, WAPA and AARP.
For the second year in a row, the Xtaushun Band is Road March champion. Their song "Gasoline (in the Fire House)" had revelers dancing in the streets at J'ouvert and the parades. The group won last year with "Energy," which was released soon after the bands debut. Another crowd favorite was "Hyper Bootie" by the Stroka Band
