Community Alert: Power Should Be Restored 'Shortly'

Jan. 9, 2005 – Power should be back on shortly, V.I. Water and Power Authority chief operating officer Glenn Rothgeb said at 6 p.m. Sunday.
"One unit is up and the second unit is on its way. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer," he said.
Power went out to all of St. Croix at 6:20 a.m. Sunday.
Rothgeb said earlier that an insulator blew in a switch yard at the Richmond plant. He said a WAPA crew was able to restore power to the Richmond plant, but when they closed a feeder, another adjacent switch yard had problems.
He said that customers were unable to reach WAPA's information line because the Sunny Isle office, where the phone is located, had no power. He did not know why the standby generator did not kick in.
