Series of Events Will Mark Martin Luther King Day

Dec. 30, 2004 –– St. John observes Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 17 with several activities organized by the St. John Interfaith Coalition.
The day starts at 9 a.m. with a ceremony at the Coral Bay basketball court. It includes reflection speeches, a guest speaker and performances.
At 10 a.m., a motorcade will leave from Coral Bay to the public tennis courts located near the fire station.
The Juvenile Delinquency Marching Band will lead a march from the tennis courts to Cruz Bay Park.
A ceremony in Cruz Bay Park begins at 11 a.m. It includes performances by Love City Leapers, the jump rope group, the Love City Pan Dragons and various school and church choirs.
In addition to speeches reflecting on King's works, Khalil Osiris will give the keynote speech. He is the director of the Circle of Courage Program at John's Folly Learning Institute as well as an educator, author and activist.
Immediately following the ceremony, the public is invited to work on a community beautification project.
