$40,000 Pair of Earrings Disappears

Dec. 24, 2004 – A major jewelry store in downtown St. Thomas lost $40,000 Wednesday when a pair of earrings worth that much turned up missing.
Police Spokesman Sgt Thomas Hannah said Friday the Diamonds International store owner reported at 6:49 p.m. Wednesday that a pair of diamond and gold earrings was missing.
During questioning police were told that an employee was supposed to transfer the earrings from the Main Street branch at about 1:30 p.m. However, the earrings ended up missing.
"Right now we have it recorded as a loss until they determine what happened," Hannah said.
Store manager Abe Tarapani said Friday he would not comment on the matter until it was resolved.
