Delta Announces Nonstop Atlanta-St. Croix Flights

Nov. 2, 2004 – Starting in March 2005, Delta Air Lines will offer nonstop flights between Atlanta and St. Croix.
Starting March 5, the flights will be offered twice weekly, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flight 1777 will depart Atlanta at 10:25 a.m. and arrive on St. Croix at 3:05 p.m. Flight 1774 will leave St. Croix at 4:05 p.m. and arrive in Atlanta at 7:25 p.m., Delta announced in a release Tuesday.
This may help simplify air travel for people traveling between St. Croix and the mainland, who now have several choices in airlines but few direct flights. For example, a check of Travelocity.com Tuesday showed three airlines with service between Atlanta and St. Croix – U.S. Airways, Continental and American – but all involved connections. American's option of one connection in San Juan, Puerto Rico, was most convenient. Continental, which had travelers hopping northeast to Newark, N.J., before flying down to San Juan and then changing to Cape Air for the last leg to St. Croix, was the least attractive option.
A check of Delta's Web site, www.delta.com, for a price comparison on fares Tuesday showed that while the press release offering the new travel was posted, travelers could not yet access the flight as an option for purchase in March.
Delta is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2004. It is the second-largest airline in the world and the leading U.S. carrier across the Atlantic, offering daily flights to 496 destinations in 88 countries, according to press materials.
