Police Commissioner Thanks Virgin Islanders

Dear Source,
Margaret Mead said: "Never Doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
During my tenure over the past 12 months as commissioner of Police, I have been blessed with the unwavering and unlimited support of many in the community who understand the shared accountability that comes with responsible citizenship. These individuals and organizations have given generously of their time, energy and finances to fill the gaps where public funds are most often unavailable or slow to come. My sincerest thanks!
There are so many to thank for their commitment and dedication to helping the Virgin Islands Police Department in our quest to improve services to all residents and visitors of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Two organizations in particular that I would like to give special recognition to are Hovensa and Innovative Communications. They have repeatedly dug deep into their pockets time and time again to assist us. We are deeply appreciative for their continuous support and hold them in the highest esteem for their many contributions to the VIPD.
As we move aggressively towards the implementation of our "customer-centric" strategic plan, I wish to reaffirm my pledge to do all that I can to make the VIPD a department that the community can be proud of, one in which everyone buys into the philosophy that we are all a part of the solution. Community/Police partnerships are essential. Today, the VIPD is experiencing great partnerships with the VIPD Community Integration Teams, the St. Croix Anti-Crime Task Force, the Community/Police Partnership Fund, the St. Croix Foundation and many other organizations throughout the territory.
I humbly ask for your continued support, for your assistance in every regard and for your understanding that the VIPD can only be the best, and meet your expectations, if given the people and financial resources to do so. Each of you has brought forward the best resource there is: "you."
The VIPD family is grateful for the community's spirit and acts of generosity. Together we will build a better VIPD and ultimately a better Virgin Islands. We all can and must be a part of the change we wish to experience in our beloved territory. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Elton Lewis
Commissioner, V.I. Police Department
