Phone Company Working to Restore Service

Oct. 24, 2004 – More than 1,000 phone and DSL lines went down when a contractor excavating along the Peter's Rest road damaged a major fiber transmission cable Saturday morning. Service has been restored to three of the affected areas, according to a release from Innovative Telephone, and the remaining service is expected to be restored by 11 p.m. Sunday.
The areas affected were Hovensa, housing training areas and other facilities; Cottage, Ruby, Humbug, Peter's Rest, Work-and-Rest, Tamarind Estate, Constitution Hill and Anna's Hope.
Holland L. Redfield II, vice president of Innovative Communications Corp. corporate affairs, said early Sunday evening that service had been restored to the Hovensa, Cottage and Ruby areas.
"ICC plans to restore services to the remaining affected areas by Sunday, 11 p.m." Redfield said, adding, "While ICC did not cause this incident, we regret the inconvenience caused to our customers."
